To the Catholic Sentinel:

I am writing out of concern for the welfare of our community in Milwaukie, our schools, in particular. I have witnessed poverty affecting the students in the after-school program at Lot Whitcomb elementary school and at the Blanchet House in downtown Portland.

These issues are even worse in other states. We can make sustainable changes to these situations with the combination of help from the government and local charities.

In Oregon, one in five children suffers from hunger due to poverty.

Help these kids who are suffering from poverty at too young an age. If they are given more attention and encouragement, it will make a big difference.
