They still have a sense of sin
Catholic News Service
Worshippers stand during Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead, N.Y.
To the Catholic Sentinel:
As I mentioned to our parochial vicar, it is striking how differently the Mexicans hear Mass.
When Communion time comes, many of them remain in their pews, while we Anglos get in the Communion line row upon row with hardly anyone remaining behind.
Our parochial vicar offered that unfortunately in Mexico the faithful were likely given a Jansenistic catechesis with a heavy emphasis on sin and guilt.
But maybe something else altogether is going on.
Perhaps they still have a sense of sin, something the Pope hopes that the Church as a whole will recover.
However, a sense of sin is not all that they have.
Far from it.
They also have children. Perhaps there is a relationship. Unlike us, they are not contracepting themselves into oblivion-because of the excellent catechesis they received in Mexico.
