Surely having no classified advertising is better than buying services from a company that has embraced the slavery and exploitation of women and children.

The Quotidian Miracle
The Eucharist is bigger than we are. Do you see what I mean? It’s bigger than understanding.

'A great sense of peace'
ROME —  Being here in Rome for the General Congregation of the Society of Jesus is something I never imagined I would experience in my lifetime. In the nearly 500 years since the founding of the Jesuits in 1540, we have only had this kind of meeting of all provincials and other elected delegates 35 times. Our main purpose at this 36th General Congregation was to elect a new superior general and also to discuss how the Society can address the signs of our times.

Stark statistics and hopeful responses

To address the bishops of the U.S. mission dioceses on the topic "Economic Structures and Poverty," I spent a month poring over 300 pages of articles and reports, and I ended up reconnecting myself to some stark statistics and opening my eyes to some needed responses by us as a society.

Parish community and the spiritual life
There are two things to remember about your spiritual life: 1) It extends way beyond your prayer life to the way you treat others, the way you spend your money, the way you maintain your self-respect and even to your politics; 2) It also includes the way you relate to God through your local parish.

Holy Cross Father Edward A. "Monk" Malloy has just produced Volume 3 of his three-part memoir "Monk's Tale." This book is a chronological tour of his 18-year presidency of the University of Notre Dame. The first two volumes traced his life from birth through schooling on to seminary and ordination up to his presidential years.

Let's sing a new song
Kaepernick and his followers have a point, and wisdom suggests hat the NFL and all supporters of football, baseball and all other such gatherings where we sing to give tribute to our country, change the song from the anthem to our beloved "God Bless America" and even bow heads or kneel when it singing it.

No to assisted suicide in nation's capital

Fair trade a way to love, show mercy

Fair trade is a market-based approach to fighting poverty. That means that it only works when people actually buy the stuff. Make sure you’re holding up your end of the bargain during October.

When people throw shade on your Jesus shine
I pray for the grace to restrain myself from smacking a person when he or she throws shade upon my Jesus shine. Because it’s still there, friends. I know it’s there. It’s always there. So long as I choose to show it.

Poverty still a concern
And of course, the gospel calls us to remember, help and form community with people who are poor. There are opportunities right in front of us.

Freedom to serve
Most of the authors instead paint a zero-sum world, where anti-discrimination laws are "of pre-eminent importance" and where religious exemptions from such statutes are seen to "significantly infringe upon" civil rights.

Follow Pope Francis' example of 'Mercy Fridays'

There was Pope Francis, clad in the typical hospital green scrubs, with a mask as well, visiting the newborn section of an Italian hospital, including the intensive care unit where five little ones struggled for survival due to early births or other complications.

Scammed no more!
Seems hacking is really making the rounds, and falling victim to these and other ploys to get us to part with our money and technology is not something that only happens to folks we hear about in news stories.

Don't mess with Mother Nature
Catholic children learn the corporal and spiritual works of mercy (seven each) about the same time they learn the seven sacraments. Most of them come directly from the Gospel, especially from the description of the last judgment. They include feeding the hungry and visiting the sick, for example, as well as admonishing sinners and bearing wrongs patiently.

Little choices make a big difference

Car manuals say the dashboard's oil light may stay on for a few seconds after you start the engine. But mine had been lit up for longer than that as I sat in the driveway.
