In the Kingdom of God food pantries and soup kitchens are no longer needed because people have food, no one is alone and poverty no longer exists. This is what social justice looks like.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is a second collection (Nov. 23 and 24) dedicated to justice, supported from our place of compassion.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is also an opportunity for hope and respect in our local communities. When we contribute to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development we support these opportunities:

• Teenage mothers in Clackamas County mobilizing advocacy efforts to change unjust housing laws and policies that prevent teen parents from succeeding.

• Tenants in low-income housing organizing to secure housing improvements and repairs instead of being evicted for raising concerns.

• In Salem-Keizer, low-income, Spanish-speaking parents of struggling students engaging in their children’s school to increase the educational outcomes of their children.

What is CCHD? It’s Catholic. The U.S. Catholic Bishops created their CCHD program to give groups of low-income people an opportunity to work to end poverty in their communities.

What is CCHD? It is you, it is me, it is those we meet in the Eucharist, and it is those in poverty — whether we know them. It is all of us. It is the people and their hope within these organizations. It is our neighbor, whom we love just as much as we love ourselves and our God.

Share your time, your prayers and your contributions. Give hope. Because together we can make a difference.
