The 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Vigil Mass starts at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Northwest Portland. The Mass, which will be celebrated by Archbishop John G. Vlazny, is sponsored by the African American Catholic Community of Oregon. Concelebrants are Msgr. Patrick Brennan, the Cathedral’s pastor, and other religious clergy.

The Afro-centric Mass will include the St. Andrew Gospel Choir, preparation of the altar by the Ladies of Peter Claver, and the reading of the litany of black saints and religious ancestors. This celebration of one of the most prominent African American religious leaders is an opportunity for all Catholics to come together to share faith and cultures.  The AACCO’s mission includes evangelizing through liturgy, music, and sharing of cultural gifts with Oregon’s Catholic community.

The Cathedral is at 1716 NW Davis St.
