Newly-ordained Deacon Santiago Feu blesses Phil Bocchi May 20 in front of St. Mary Cathedral. Archbishop Alexander Sample asked the new deacons to “die to self.”

The archbishop told the two candidates, who hope to be ordained priests next year, that they are to die to themselves and abandon themselves to God’s will “in order to serve God perfectly.” Those who see their ordination as about themselves lose the spirit of holy orders, the archbishop said.
