BEAVERTON — The boys from Valley Catholic High School are the Oregon 3A basketball champions. The Valiants, 27-2 on the year, cruised through the state tournament by an average of 30 points through the semi-finals. In the championship game, Valley Catholic got past Catholic rival De La Salle North 62-50.

Gabe Taylor and Jarrett Gray poured in 22 points apiece for Valley Catholic and pulled down 18 combined rebounds. For De La Salle, Larry Kemp was high scorer with 12.

In 2A girls basketball, Regis powered to the state crown, defeating Western Mennonite 36-29. Beth Lorenz was the engine for the Rams, ringing up 23 points on the day. Regis had a 92 percent free throw percentage in the title game, which was tight until Regis pulled away in the last two minutes.

In 6A boys' basketball, eventual champion West Linn knocked both Central Catholic and Jesuit out of the tournament. The Rams went down 74-63 in the quarterfinals and the Crusaders 65-46 in the semifinals.

La Salle Prep made it to the 4A boys basketball finals, but lost there to Philomath 48-39. Keeston Smith had 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort.

Elsewhere in the 3A boys tourney, Blanchet Catholic of Salem made it to the quarterfinals before being upset by Harrisburg 64-58.

Among 2A boys, 13th-ranked Regis lost a squeaker 47-44 in the semi-finals to eventual champion Irrigon. Victor Rodriguez of Regis scored 13 in the loss. Irrigon went on to cruise in the final game, beating Oakland by 21 points.

In girls basketball, St. Mary's Academy made it to the 6A quarterfinals before losing to Westview, a team that would end up taking third in state. Cece Wooten poured in 19 points for the Blues, 22-4 on the year.

In 5A, Marist lost in the first round in overtime to Sherwood.

As with the boys from La Salle Prep, the women Falcons made it to the championship game but were beat by the top-ranked team. In the 52-40 loss to Sutherlin, Sterling Swift was La Salle Prep's top scorer with 15 points. Katie Buerk had 10 rebounds.

Among 3A girls, Valley Catholic was runner up, losing 52-36 to Vale. Lindsie LaBonte scored 12 for the women Valiants and Bailey McDevitt had 10. St. Mary's of Medford advanced to the quarterfinals,  but went down 43-38 in overtime to Willamina, with Rose Alvarez and Lillian Martin chipping in 11 points apiece for the Crusaders.

In swimming, St. Mary's of Medford took the overall title among 4A and smaller schools. The Crusader women — junior Grace Jovanovic, freshman Olivia Dow, senior Andrea Dow and senior Alyse Darnall — were first in the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay. Darnall won the 100 yard freestyle and Jovanovic placed second in the 200 yard individual medley.

Elsewhere in women's swimming, Jesuit placed fifth in 6A.

Jesuit men were second in the 6A swim meet. Among men in the 4A and smaller schools, La Salle Prep took fourth.
