The Knights of Columbus Christmas Invitational Basketball Tournament was held at Valley Catholic High School Dec. 28-29. On hiatus for the past six years, the tournament was rekindled by Chris Johnsen, Knights Oregon State Council director and Holy Trinity Council’s Deputy Grand Knight. After securing a location, Johnsen worked hard to generate interest from eighth-grade CYO teams.

Day one play determined seeding for "Championship Saturday."  Teams hailed from St. Pius X, West Hills Christian and St. Matthew’s (Hillsboro), St. Ignatius and St. Francis/Visitation.

In the championship game, St. Ignatius took on St. Pius X in a back and forth battle, which eventually saw St. Pius X bring home the first-place trophy to end the tournament.

After each game, coaches named an opposing player as an MVP of the game. Johnsen tallied all the votes and after the championship game the following players were named the All Tournament Team: Jordan Jun, West Hills Christian; Mathew Eichten, St. Pius X; Dylan Selleck, St. Francis/Visitation; Will Zener, St. Matthew; and Brandon Bravo, St. Ignatius.
“Next year's tournament will only be bigger and better,” Johnsen said.
