EUGENE —The Marist girls’ basketball team has been working hard in the first week of the season. The team saying this year is: “Every second, every minute, JUST WORK” and the girls have been committed.
The team is led by four seniors, three who will be coming off major injuries: Maegan Anderson, Martha Gehrig, Kassi McCabe and Kriscia Rivas. The junior class is led by All-League performer Karson Silver and Annie Yates. Returning for the sophomore class will be Tiffany Stockton-Mclean, Julia Smith, Kim Knudtson and Haley Harrison.
The team also has a group of returning junior varsity players who have been putting effort into rounding out the varsity roster: Emily Laing, Sara Lange, Anilese Haney, Kelsey Fuller and Maya Peterson.
After coming up just two points short of making it to the final eight last year, the team is very excited and is working towards goals to compete at the highest level of competition throughout the year and strive to get better each day in practice to make the play-offs this season. The Spartans begin the season playing West Albany, who has been to the final eight the past few years. We are also in the Liberty Christmas Tournament and will begin league play Jan. 3.
