BEAVERTON — After placing at state almost every year since the reclassification (2006), Valley Catholic finally captured the 3A state championship last season, defeating St. Mary’s (Medford) in the title game in an exciting matchup between the two fastest-paced teams.

Several talented seniors — including 2013 State Player of the Year Chelsea Alsdorf — graduated last June. But eight players are returning from last year’s championship team.  Coaches describe Kaylynn Bush, Lindsie LaBonte and Bailey McDevitt as “3A all-state caliber players who have all played huge minutes in league and state playoff games over the years.” To bolster a high-energy attack, Valley Catholic’s roster includes a number of student athletes from last year’s JV squad, which lost only one game.

Led by 2013 3A Coach of the Year John Innes, the Valiants will battle early in the season with Lewis and Clark league rivals Rainier and Portland Adventist. They already have their sights set on returning to Coos Bay to defend their 3A championship in March.

Innes said, “We again have a great group of girls this year. A very nice blend of talented players with great character and a tremendous desire to improve as basketball players.  With that combination, we have a great shot at reaching our goals this season.”
