Oregon Catholic high schools are in the hunt for state titles as the fall sports season comes to an end.

In boys' cross country, Central Catholic has already brought home the 6A cross country crown, La Salle Prep in Milwaukie is tops in 4A and Valley Catholic of Beaverton is number one among 3A and smaller schools.

In 6A, senior Kyle Thompson of Central Catholic was top individual finisher with a 15:22. He was also first as a sophomore and third as a junior. The Rams easily won the team title with Sam Truax, Gunnar Vik, Daniel Thompson, Sam Lomax, Jeanbaptiste Tooley and Dante Dalla Gasparina finishing fifth, sixth, 10th, 11th, 15th and 29th respectively.

Among 5A boys, Marist was fifth, with senior JP Kiefer the seventh individual finisher.

La Salle Prep ran home with the 4A title after the team of Will Thompson, Jason Rae, Colton Passmore, Logan Veasy, Davis Keeney, Truman Rae and Nathan Tamashiro finished fourth, 10th, 11th, 13th, 16th, 23rd and 55th respectively.

In 3A, Valley Catholic had three in the top 10 to take home the gold. Cooper Roach, Wilder Boyden, Ben Davidson, Nathaniel Trobough, Alex Kiss, Jacob Godshalk and Phillip Borlet finished third, fourth, seventh, 29th, 31st, 32nd and 52nd respectively.

In 6A girls cross country, St. Mary's Academy finished a close second behind Sunset. Jesuit was fourth. Among girls in 3A and smaller schools, St. Mary's of Medford was second and Valley Catholic fourth.

In 6A football, a holy war rematch is a distinct possibility as high-ranked Central Catholic and Jesuit plow through their brackets. Both teams won their conferences and posted big wins in the first round of playoffs. This weekend, both teams were expected to win as Jesuit was to face rival Lake Oswego while Central was about to take on McNary. When Central Catholic and Jesuit met earlier this year, the Rams were victorious 45-31.

In 5A football, Marist of Eugene fell in the first round to Roosevelt, 38-35. In 3A, Blanchet Catholic of Salem edged Valley Catholic of Beaverton in the first round, 28-24. On Nov. 15, the Cavaliers were to take on powerhouse Dayton. In 2A football, it's likely that Regis of Stayton will meet Portland Christian in the Nov. 30 final. In the first round, Regis hammered Stanfield 61-0 and was to take on Oakland Nov. 15 at home.

In volleyball, top-ranked Central Catholic took second place after a 3-1 upset loss to Lakeridge. Central Catholic had to fight hard to make the final, besting Jesuit the night before in a hard-fought 3-2 match that went 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13. Jesuit went on to take third with a 3-1 win over Roseburg.

In 4A volleyball, La Salle Prep of Milwaukie went down in round one to eventual champions Crook County.

Valley Catholic sailed into the 3A volleyball finals, but lost 3-0 to a Santiam Christian team that did not lose a set during the playoffs and dropped only seven sets all year, those coming against bigger schools. Blanchet Catholic lost in round one to Oregon Episcopal, which ended up fifth in state.

In 2A, the Regis volleyball team lost in round one.

In boys soccer, it looked like a 6A holy war final was on the way for Nov. 16. At press time, top-ranked Central Catholic was to take on number five McKay and number two Jesuit was to play third-ranked West Linn.

In 5A, Marist made it to the quarterfinals but lost 1-0 to Summit. La Salle Prep charged out of round one with a 3-0 win over Ontario, but lost 2-0 to Henley in the quarterfinals.

In boys soccer for 3A and smaller schools, St. Mary's of Medford made it into the semifinals after toppling De La Salle North Catholic in round one and top-ranked Riverdale in the quarterfinals. St. Mary's, ranked eighth, was to take on number four Portland Adventist at press time. Blanchet Catholic lost 4-1 in the quarterfinals to second-ranked Riverside.

In girls soccer, Jesuit was to play Tualatin in the semi-finals at press time. The Crusaders defeated Tualatin 3-0 earlier in the season. St. Mary's Academy lost 4-0 in round one to North Medford.

In 4A girls soccer, La Salle Prep upset second-ranked Philomath to make it into the semifinals. The Falcons were set to take on Scappoose at press time for a crack at the title game.

For 3A and smaller schools, St. Mary's of Medford and Valley Catholic each made it to the semifinals, with games set for press time. Number four St. Mary's was taking on top-ranked Oregon Episcopal while second raked Valley Catholic was set to play number six Catlin Gabel.
