BEAVERTON — The Valley Catholic Valiant boys look to learn from last year’s effort, hoping to top a 2-7 league record, and 3-10 record overall. Eight starters return from from last year’s team and they have a new head coach.

Mike Chertude’s young team includes only one senior, Esai Morales. Morales will be looked upon to provide leadership both on and off the field. “My goal this season is to make this a better team when I leave Valley Catholic than when I started playing soccer here four years ago,” Morales says.

Juniors Branden Vennes and Joey Raulino will be called upon to help lead. Other returning starters include juniors Ben Davidson, Chris Johnson, Wilder Boyden, Joe Coucher and sophomore Alex Kiss. An athletic freshman class will provide depth, with several expected to play a lot of minutes.

Chertude, the third coach in three years for the Valiants, says he is in a building phase. “The goal this year is to bring this group of young men together as a team with a clear, consistent message that will assist us in growing not only as a soccer team but individuals over the next few seasons,” Chertude says.
