BEAVERTON — After an 18-9 season and a trip deep into the playoffs last year, the Valiant volleyballers lost only two seniors. That means watch out for Valley Catholic.

Valley Catholic returns a number of key pieces from last year’s team that finished in fifth place at the 3A State Tournament. Senior outside hitter Katherine Jesse and senior middle blocker Madeline Henningsen return along with seniors Rachel Leining, Ashley Ferris and Carolyn Casale. Juniors Tin Tin Luu, Emily Groh, Rebecca Fischer and sophomore Olivia Jackson all bring valuable experience from last season.

Becky Kemper returns as head volleyball coach. She previously coached at Valley Catholic from 1995-2002; in 1997 she was named Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year. She left high school coaching to coach her two daughters, Sam and Tori, in CYO and club volleyball.

Kemper was a member of the Western Oregon State University volleyball team from 1988 to 1990. During her career there, WOU finished second in the nation at the NAIA National Championships; Becky was named an NAIA All-American as well as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

“This group of girls has a chance to have a special season,” says Kemper. “They have worked hard in the off-season and have shown tremendous passion and energy as we have started the 2013 season.”
