Central Catholic’s volleyball team ended the 2012 season after a semifinal loss to Roseburg in the OSAA 6A Volleyball Tournament. Even dynasties have a year off now and then. After an amazing decade or two, the Rams finished the year with a 27-5 record. This year’s roster has nine returning players and the customary well-founded hopes of doing exceedingly well.
Long time head coach is Rick Lorenz with Julie Taylor and Malcom Doi as assistant coaches.
The Rams finished fifth in state last year and secured another Mount Hood Conference title.
Led by seniors Camille Foster and Natalie Batiste, the team is looking forward to remaining in state title contention with nine players returning. Also back from last year’s team are juniors Kealia Rosa, Olivia Skalbeck, Whitney Turner, Ramey Gardner, Vicky Gajda, and sophomores Selena Batiste and Reed Jacobson.
New additions to the team include juniors Jocelyn Peterson and Sarah Garrow, sophomores Beth Bobzien and Kiki James, and freshman Maddie Batiste. With the addition of 5’10’’ Maddie, there are now three talented Batiste sisters on the varsity team.
Central Catholic’s depth and talent are what gives the team a competitive edge. “When we go into practice each day and you have this type of parity, the players know that they had better bring their ‘A’ game, as someone is always on their heels ready to take their place. That’s a nice advantage,” says Lorenz.
