The top-ranked 6A Jesuit Crusaders went 10-3 last year, losing in the semi-finals to eventual champion Sheldon. Jesuit lost 32 seniors from a large squad, but retained nine starters and intends to get to the finals, a design that those taking an Oregonian poll think is likely. Among players leading will be senior linebacker Joey Alfieri, who plans to play for Stanford. Senior tight end/defensive end Henry Mondeaux is a major blocker for the Jesuit running game, but may get more receptions this year. The 6-5, 245-pound Mondeaux will be a key at defensive end.
Also returning are Christian Martinek, David Brugato, Chase Morrison and Zach Houlemard.
“As with every year, we anticipate improving on a daily basis and being able to compete with the top teams in the state by year’s end,” says Ken Potter, head coach. “We need to stay healthy and strive toward excellence in all we do.”
Here are Potter’s coaching philosophies: Give maximum effort in everything. Make sure that God and family are number one, education and schoolwork are number two, “and then after that focus on football.”
