UP gets $250,000 for stadium upgrade
A $250,000 gift from a Safeway executive will go toward improving the University of Portland baseball stadium. Larree Renda, a California woman and parent of a 2009 graduate, is a member of the university’s Board of Regents. Her donation will help pay for artificial turf, lights and fencing. Work is slated to begin after the end of the 2014 season.
Scott Leykam, athletic director, says the lighting will help increase attendance. Games now are held in the afternoon on weekdays.
