Rupp making marks year-round
Olympic silver medalist Galen Rupp, a Central Catholic High School graduate, makes news even when the Olympics are not near. He was recently named USA Track and Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting the 3,000-meter indoor American record of 7:30.18 at a meet in Stockholm.
Rupp’s time in the 3,000 set a meet record and garnered Rupp his second world leading mark of the season — he already owns the fastest time in the mile.
Rupp knocked off more than two seconds from Bernard Lagat’s previous American record of 7:32.48, set in 2007.
