The prep basketball regular season is winding toward an end, with many teams from Catholic schools headed to the playoffs.

Jesuit's boys, 17-2 as of press time, are ranked second by the Oregon School Activities Association in 6A behind undefeated Lake Oswego. The Crusaders only two losses came to the Lakers near the start of the year.

In the annual Holy War basketball game against Central Catholic on Jan. 11, Jesuit managed a 56-51 win. The Crusaders are expected to prevail in the final four games in regular season against league opponents.

Central Catholic, at 16-4, is ranked fourth in 6A. The Rams' losses have come to Lake Oswego, Jesuit and West Linn. Central Catholic has posted some lopsided wins, including a 64-27 victory.

The boys of Marist in Eugene, recently moved up to 5A, is 13th in the division at 9-8.

Among 4A boys, La Salle Prep is headed for a conference win and the playoffs with an 18-2 record and a number three ranking.
Valley Catholic is number two in the 3A boys category, with a 19-3 record. The Valiants are closely followed by Catholic rival Blanchet Catholic, ranked third with a 20-4 tally. Coming in fifth so far in 3A is De La Salle North Catholic of Portland, with a 16-7 record. Also in 3A, St. Mary's of Medford is ranked 32nd at 7-16.

Among 2A boys, Regis is ranked third at 18-6.

In girls basketball, Central Catholic and St. Mary's Academy are closely matched in the 6A Mount Hood Conference, with the Rams ranked sixth in the OSAA at 18-3 and the Blues seventh at 14-6. When the two teams tipped off against each other Jan. 15, Central Catholic won 67-39.

In 5A, the girls of Marist are ranked 13th at 10-9.

La Salle Prep's girls have earned the fourth spot in 4A with a 16-3 result.

With a 23-1 record, the girls of Valley Catholic are atop the 3A rankings. The Valiants' only loss came to a Rainier team that had defeated handily earlier in the year. Few of the games have been close, the exception being a 52-50 squeaker over Damascus Christian in December and a 3-point win against Portland Adventist in January.

Not far back in 3A are the girls of St. Mary's Medford, at 21-2. Blanchet Catholic, at 9-12, is ranked 28th. De La Salle North is 34th at 4-16.

The girls of Regis are near the top at number two in 2A. With at 22-1 record, Regis has lost only to powerful 3A Valley Catholic.
