St. Mary’s Academy basketball starters Zoie Sheng, Sha’Nice Storey and Taelor Ross all entered their senior season with their college futures already settled.

Sheng and Storey, two honorable mention all-state guards, signed letters of intent in November to play college basketball at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

“They started recruiting me last summer. … I thought it sounded like a lot of fun and a cool school,” Sheng said. “It was completely different from the schools that were recruiting me up to that point. The art thing added a totally different aspect to it. I’ve always been artistic, but I didn’t know how to pursue it (as a career). Now I do.”
Sheng’s enthusiasm for the Academy of Art University proved contagious.

“After they started talking to Zoie, they started talking to me, too. The coach called me one day to talk about it. … The more I learned about it, the more I liked it. Then when I went (to visit), I liked it even more,” Storey said.

At the same time as Storey and Sheng were committing to the Academy of Art University, low post Ross signed on at Seattle University. Her brother, Terrence, plays a few miles away at the University of Washington.

“I didn’t have any doubts. I really enjoyed the coaches, and it’s a diverse team at a Jesuit school. I couldn’t ask for anything better than that,” Ross said.
