Central Catholic High School athletes Martenne Bettendorf and Brennan Scarlett have been selected as finalists for the Johnny Carpenter Prep Athlete of the Year Award. Scarlett, who graduated last year and is currently attending the University of California, was a standout multi-sport athlete, and Bettendorf, a senior at Central Catholic, was a dominant force on the volleyball court and helped the Rams win three state championships in the last three years.
The winners will be announced at the 2011 Oregon Sports Awards show on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton.
The Oregon Sports Awards honors the state’s top athletes, coaches and teams of the past year. A statewide media panel votes on the honors. Sportscaster Ahmad Rashad will be the master of ceremonies.
