• 1941 – Lacy Zenner, former Portland University athlete, is appointed athletic director of Portland Catholic Youth Organization.
• 1941 - Lawrence “Bud” O’Neil, former Northwest amateur heavyweight champion, is named director of Catholic Youth Organization boxing activities in Portland.
• 1943 – Tackle football, volleyball, basketball, softball and baseball become CYO sports.
• 1944 – Track and field is added as a CYO sport.
• 1944 – Father Merline Hamsmith is named CYO director.
• 1949 – Phil Murphy becomes CYO director and leads the program for 30 years.
• 1952 – Horton family donates property to Catholic Charities for a “youth camp.”
• 1953 – Camp Howard opens for the first summer of youth camping. Father Jerome Schmidt is first camp director.
• 1956 – Swimming is added as a CYO sport.
• 1956 – Rev. Carl Gimpl becomes director of Camp Howard and leads for 26 years.
• 1969 – Soccer is added as a CYO sport.
• 1980 – Playoffs held for the first time for CYO volleyball.
• 1980 – CYO and Camp Howard become one organization known as CYO/Camp Howard led by Father Gimpl.
• 1983 – Bill Reed becomes executive director of CYO/Camp Howard.
• 1982 – Summer camp fee is raised to $95.
• 1983 – Tackle football is dropped as a CYO sport.
• 1984 – Little interest for fall soccer. CYO is competing with well established soccer programs in the Tri-County area.
• 1984 – Wind damage to a cabin results in insurance payment of $6,100. Two dozen trees are blown down and an open air cabin in the boys' section is crushed by a falling tree.
• 1984 – Linda Silva becomes athletic coordinator for CYO.
• 1984 – Wilma Ouhl becomes executive director of CYO/Camp Howard.
• 1985 – Camp Howard offers leadership camp for the first time for high school age youths.
• 1988 – Soccer is discontinued as a CYO sport.
• 1991 – Softball is discontinued as a CYO sport.
• 1997 – Sr. Krista von Borstel SSMO becomes executive director of CYO/Camp Howard.
• 1998 — “Specialty camps” are introduced at Camp Howard to give kids longer time in areas they like.
• 1999 – Tackle football is brought back as a CYO sport and offered in regions.
• 1999 – City basketball tournament is expanded to include sixth grade
• 2000 – City basketball tournament is expanded to include grades 4-12
• 2000 – Sr. Krista designs new tournament brackets that include “channel games.”
• 2009 – Sixteen trees at Camp Howard blow down in a winter snow, ice and wind storm. It takes three months to clear before camp can be reopened in time for spring Outdoor School. No cabins hit.
• 2010 – CYO/Camp Howard TV advertisements begin on Channel 6.
• 2011 – Lacrosse is offered as a CYO sport.
• 2011 – Camp Howard sets all-time attendance record of 1,515.
• 2011 – First CYO Champions of Faith benefit dinner held at Oregon Convention Center with Joey Harrington guest speaker. Werner and Colleen Nistler are chairs and Rick Skayhan is emcee.
