ACCW holds district meeting

The Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women met at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Portland May 12. Joan Towner, president, opened the meeting and, after initial reports, proceeded to the election of officers. She then presented the new leaders to the members: Virginia Durrin of St. Therese Parish in Portland, president; Marci Marlow of St. Henry Parish in Gresham, vice president; Carolyn Dinsmore of Holy Redeemer Parish in Portland, treasurer. The post of secretary is still to be announced.

After reports from delegates and representatives of parishes and the Catholic Daughters and the Young Ladies Institute, Father Robert Krueger, spiritual director, offered Mass. He spoke on a reading from the day, Acts 11:3-18, describing how St. Peter, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, strongly endorsed the sharing of the Gospel and membership among the faithful and among Gentiles.

Father Krueger asked his listeners to be open, as St. Peter was, to the Holy Spirit rather than expecting to be able to understand and make decisions based upon knowledge and judgment alone.

The next ACCW meeting is set for Sept. 8 at St. John the Baptist Parish in Milwaukie. On Oct. 15, ACCW will hold its annual retreat at Our Lady of Sorrows Retreat House.

Catholic women and their guests are welcome at all ACCW gatherings.
