Archdiocese announces clergy reassignments

The Archdiocese of Portland is announcing its 2014 clergy reassignments. The changes take effect July 1 unless noted otherwise. Here are the new assignments:

Father Todd Molinari

New assignment: Vicar for Clergy, Archdiocese of Portland
Previous assignment: Pastor, St. Joseph, Salem

Father Molinari was born in 1968 in Portland. He attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, and the North American College and Pontifical Gregorian University, both in Rome. He was ordained in 1995 by Archbishop William Levada. He has served at St. Anne, Grants Pass, St. Francis Parish, Roy, St. Edward Parish, North Plains and St. John the Baptist Parish, Milwaukie. His most recent assignment was as pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Salem.

Father Jeffrey Eirvin

New assignment: Vocations Director, Archdiocese of Portland
Previous assignment: Administrator, Sacred Heart-St. Louis, Gervais

Father Eirvin was born in St. Louis, Mo., in 1978. He attended Missouri State University and then Oregon State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in graphic design in 2001. He worked as a graphic designer before entering Mount Angel Seminary where he earned a certificate in philosophy in 2007. He attended the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas and earned a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology in 2010. He also studied at the North American College in Rome. He was ordained by in 2012 by Archbishop John Vlazny.

He has served at St. Alexander, Cornelius, Holy Trinity, Beaverton, Queen of Peace, Salem, St. Patrick, Canby, St. Mary Cathedral, Portland, and St. Pius X, Portland. His most recent assignment was as administrator at Sacred Heart-St. Louis, Gervais.

Msgr. Richard Huneger

New assignment: Pastor, St. Joseph Salem
Previous assignment: Pastor, St. John the Apostle, Oregon City

Msgr. Huneger was born in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1946. He entered Mount Angel Seminary High School in 1960. He finished high school and college at the hilltop seminary run by the Benedictines and then earned advanced theological degrees at the Collegium Canisianum and the University of Innsbruck, both in Austria. He was ordained in 1973 by Archbishop Robert Dwyer. Msgr. Huneger was the archdiocese’s director of pastoral services 1987 -’94. He taught at La Salle High School in the 1970s.

He has served at St. John the Apostle, Oregon City, Christ the King and St. John the Baptist, both in Milwaukie, St. Mary Star of the Sea, Astoria, Holy Cross, North Portland, the Madeleine, Northeast Portland, and St. Rose of Lima, Northeast Portland. His most recent assignment was pastor at St. John the Apostle, Oregon City.

Father Cary Reniva

New assignment: Pastor, St. Cecilia, Beaverton
Previous assignment: Administrator, St. Anthony, Forest Grove

Father Reniva was born in 1982 in Guinobatan, Albay, Philippines. He attended Mater Salutis College Seminary in Daraga, Albay, Philippines, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in classical philosophy in 2004. He completed a master of arts degree in theology at Mount Angel Seminary. He was ordained in 2009 by Archbishop Vlazny.

His has served at Christ the King, Milwaukie, St. Vincent de Paul, Salem, All Saints, Portland, Sacred Heart, Medford, and St. Luke, Woodburn. His most recent assignment was as administrator at St. Anthony, Forest Grove.

Father John Henderson

New assignment: Pastor, St. Anthony, Tigard
Previous assignment: Vocations Director, Archdiocese of Portland

Father Henderson was born in 1957 in Detroit, Mich. He was ordained for the Conventual Franciscans in 1984 in Detroit. He served in Michigan as associate pastor/youth minister, in Chicago as Vocations Director, and in Wisconsin as associate pastor.
He was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Portland in 2009 by Archbishop Vlazny.

He served at Sacred Heart, Tillamook, St. Mary, Corvallis, St. Luke, Woodburn, and Holy Family, Portland and most recently as vocations director for the Archdiocese of Portland.

Father Angelo Te

New assignment: Pastor, Ascension, Portland
Previous assignment: Administrator, Our Lady of the Mountain, Ashland

Father Te was born in 1977 in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, Philippines. He attended the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, earning a degree in accounting in 1998. He also did graduate work in the Philippines. He was ordained in 2011 by Archbishop Vlazny.
He has served at Christ the King, Milwaukie, St. Peter and St. Mark, Eugene and Sacred Heart, Medford. Most recently he served as administrator at Our Lady of the Mountain, Ashland.

Father Jose Campos Garcia

New assignment: Administrator, St. Joseph and St. Francis, Roseburg and Sutherlin
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Anne, Grants Pass

Father Campos Garcia was born in 1972 in El Calabozo Ario de Rosales in Michoacán State, Mexico. He entered the seminary in 2003, attending the Seminary of Santa Maria de Guadalupe in Mexico City, Mexico.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2007 and earned a master of divinity degree from Mount Angel Seminary in 2012. He was ordained by Archbishop Vlazny in 2012.

His ministry training includes work at St. Alexander, Cornelius, and St. Cecilia, Beaverton. His most recent assignment was as parochial vicar at St. Anne, Grants Pass.

Father Maxy D’Costa

New assignment: Pastor, St. John the Apostle, Oregon City
Previous assignment: Administrator, St. Wenceslaus, Scappoose

Father D’Costa was ordained a priest of the Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier (Society of Pilar) in 1996. He worked in the suburbs of Bombay for eight years and handled the responsibilities of a parish for five years. He was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Portland on March 28, 2014.

In the Archdiocese of Portland, he has served at St. John the Baptist Parish, Milwaukie, St. Pius X, Portland and most recently as administrator at St. Wenceslaus, Scappoose.

Father John Marshall

New assignment: Administrator, St. Anthony, Forest Grove
Previous assignment: Administrator, St. Peter, Eugene

Father Marshall was born in Pendleton in 1978. After attending the University of Portland, he entered Mount Angel Seminary, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2000. He worked for Umpqua Bank for four years. He was ordained at in 2013 by Archbishop Sample.

He has served at St. Paul, Silverton; Our Lady of the Mountain, Ashland; and the Madeleine, Portland. He most recently served as administrator at St. Peter, Eugene.

Father Rodel de Mesa

New assignment: Administrator, Holy Family, Portland
Previous assignment: Administrator, Holy Trinity, Bandon

Father de Mesa was born in Bato, Catanduanes, Philippines, in 1984. He attended Mater Salutis College Seminary in Sipi, Daraga, Albay, Philippines, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2006. He also completed a master of arts degree and a master of divinity degree at Mount Angel Seminary. He was ordained in 2012 by Archbishop Vlazny.

He has served at the Madeleine, Portland, and Resurrection, Tualatin. His most recent assignment was as administrator at Holy Trinity, Bandon.

Father Arturo Romero-Bautista

New assignment: Administrator, St. Patrick, Canby
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, Sacred Heart, Medford

Father Romero-Bautista was born in Álamo, Veracruz, Mexico in 1979. He attended the archdiocesan seminary Rafael Guizar Valencia in Xalapa, Veracruz, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He began his studies in theology at Valencia archdiocesan seminary and later transferred to Mount Angel Seminary.  He graduated with a master’s degree in divinity in May. He was ordained by Archbishop Vlazny in 2012.

He has served at parishes in Veracruz, Xalapa, and Álamo, all in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. He has also served at Resurrection, Tualatin and St. Anthony, Forest Grove. His most recent assignment was as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Medford.

Father Mariano Escano

New assignment: Pastor, Our Lady of the Mountain, Ashland
Previous assignment: Administrator, St. Helen, Junction City

Father Escano was born in 1974 in Quezon City, Philippines. He graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1998, earning a bachelor’s degree of arts in economics. He entered the Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay City, Philippines, and graduated with a master’s degree of arts in pastoral ministry in 2006. He entered Mount Angel Seminary in the fall of 2006. He completed a master’s degree of divinity at Mount Angel Seminary in May 2008.  He has served at St. Vincent Ferrer, Surigao City, Philippines, the Divine Word College of Legazpi, Legazpi City, Philippines, St. André Bessette, Portland, and St. James, McMinnville.

His most recent assignment was as administrator of St. Helen Parish, Junction City and St. Rose of Lima Parish, Monroe.

Father Panneer Selvam

New assignment: Pastor, St. Mary and St. John the Apostle, Florence and Reedsport
Previous assignment: Pastor, St. Joseph, Roseburg

Father Selvam was born in Dindigul Tn, India, in 1953. He graduated from Arulanandar College in 1977 and attended seminary at St. Paul, Trichy, India, and Sacred Heart Seminary in Poonamallee, Madras, India. He was ordained for the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, India, in 1981. He was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Portland in 2003.

He has served at St. Joseph, Salem, Our Lady of the Lake, Lake Oswego, Immaculate Conception, Stayton and most recently as pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Roseburg, and St. Francis Xavier Parish, Sutherlin.

Father Nicolaus Marandu, ALCP

New assignment: Pastor St. Frederic Parish, St. Helens/Administrator, St. Wenceslaus, Scappoose

Previous assignment: Pastor, Immaculate Heart, Portland
Father Marandu was born in Moshi, Tanzania, in 1952. He entered a junior seminary in 1971, and attended senior seminaries from 1975 to ‘80, all in Tanzania. He was ordained a priest in 1982 for the Apostolic Life Community of Priests in Moshi, Tanzania. He served at parishes in the Diocese of Morogoro from 1982 to ‘88, and in Kenya from 1988 to ‘91. He was a parochial vicar in Portland from 1992 to 1994, and was assigned as pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Portland on July 1, 1994 where he has served for 20 years.

Father Charles Holden

New assignment: Administrator, St. Helen, Junction City
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Joseph, Salem

Father Holden was born in New York City in 1953. He earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies in 1979 from Portland State University. He did graduate work in theology, earning a master of divinity degree in 2013 from Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis.

He made a profession of faith into the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Cottage Grove in 1972. He worked for Bank of America and for Tri-Met before entering the seminary. He was ordained in 2013 by Archbishop Sample.

He served at Our Lady of Sorrows, Portland; St. Clare, Portland, St. Paul, Eugene and most recently as parochial vicar at St. Joseph, Salem.

Father Paulinus Mangesho, ALCP

New assignment: Administrator, Immaculate Heart, Portland
Previous assignment: Apostolic Life Community of Priests, Diocese of Moshi, Tanzania

Father Mangesho was born in 1958 in Moshi, Tanzania.  He entered the junior seminary in 1981 and attended senior seminaries from 1984 to ‘91, all in Tanzania.  He was ordained in 1991 for the Apostolic Life Community of Priests in Moshi, Tanzania.  In 1991, he was a parochial vicar and studied accounting in the Diocese of Moshi. From 1992 to ‘94, he was a regional financial administrator for St. Joseph Vocational Training Center and other diocesan offices in the Diocese of Moshi.  From 1994 to 1995, he was a parish administrator in the Tabora Diocese.  From ‘95 to ‘99, was administrator of St. Joseph Vocational Training Center and financial administrator of other education programs and training centers in the Diocese of Moshi.  From 1999 to 2006, he served as pastor and parochial vicar for parishes in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Since 2006, he has served as the director of the Vocational Training Center in Bomang’ombe, Moshi, Tanzania.

Father Michael Jeeva Antony, sfx

New assignment: Administrator, St. Peter and St. Mark, Eugene
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, Sacred Heart, Medford

Father Michael Jeeva Antony was born May 22, 1999 in Tamilnadu, India.  He entered the seminary in 1991, and has a bachelor’s degree in history, philosophy and theology. In 1999 he was ordained a priest for the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier in Vadasery, India.  From 1999 to 2011, he worked as parochial vicar in the Diocese of Simdega, as parochial vicar and pastor in the Diocese of Port Blair, a vocations director and minor seminary director in the Diocese of Chingleput, and as pre-novitiate director and orphanage assistant director in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, all in India.  He was parochial vicar at St. Mark, Eugene from December 2011 to October 2012, and then returned to India.  He has been a parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Medford since January 2014.

Father Julio Cesar Torres Montejo

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Joseph, Salem

Father Torres Montejo was born in Cardenas, Tabasco, Mexico in 1982. He studied at the Major Seminary of Mary Immaculate earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2004 and a bachelor’s degree in theology in 2007. He earned a master of divinity from the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis., in 2014. He was ordained June 6 by Archbishop Alexander Sample.
His ministry training includes a pastoral year at St. John the Apostle Parish, Oregon City.

Father Mark Bentz

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Cecilia, Beaverton
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Pius X, Portland

Father Bentz was born in 1985 in Indianapolis, Ind., and raised in Stayton. After studying at Franciscan University of Steubenville, he entered Mount Angel Seminary, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religious studies in 2008. He next attended the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, earning a Sacred Theology Bachelor degree in theology and religious studies in 2010. He then studied at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome, and completed a Sacred Theology Licentiate degree in spiritual theology in 2013. He was ordained in 2013 by Archbishop Alexander Sample.

He has served at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Astoria, St. Joseph, Salem and most recently as parochial vicar at St. Pius, Portland.

Father Moises Leal Gonzalez

New assignment:  Parochial Vicar, Ascension, Portland

Father Leal Gonzalez was born in Jalisco, Mexico, in 1973. He earned a master of divinity degree from Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis., in 2014.

He has served at St. Mary, Corvallis, St. Alice, Springfield, St. Pius, Portland, St. Paul, Silverton, Sacred Heart, Medford, St. Luke, Woodburn, St. John, Yamhill, and San Martin de Porres Mission, Dayton. He was ordained by Archbishop Sample on June 6.

He has also served at St. Adalbert Parish and San Rafael Archangel Parish both in Milwaukee, Wis.

Father Chrispine Otieno

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, Sacred Heart-St. Louis, Gervais
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Mary, Eugene

Father Otieno was born in Siaya County, Kenya, in 1982. He attended the Consulata Institute of Philosophy, earning a diploma in philosophy and religious studies in 2005. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome in 2005. Continuing his studies at the Urbaniana University, he earned a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology in 2009. He earned a master’s degree in theology from Mount Angel Seminary in 2013. He was ordained in 2013 by Archbishop Sample.

He has served at St. Henry, Gresham, St. Paul, Silverton, St. Mary Parish, Corvallis and most recently as parochial vicar at St. Mary, Eugene.

Father Eric Andersen

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, Holy Trinity-St. John the Baptist, Bandon and Port Orford

Father Andersen was born in 1967. He attended the University of Oregon and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theater in 1990. He completed a master’s degree and a sacred theology bachelor’s degree at Mount Angel Seminary. He was ordained in 2009 by Archbishop John Vlazny.

He has served at Our Lady of the Mountain, Ashland, Christ the King, Milwaukie, St. John the Baptist, Milwaukie, St. Cecilia, Beaverton, Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Verboort, Sacred Heart, Medford, St. Mary, Eugene and Sacred Heart-St. Louis, Gervais.

Father Victoriano Perez Delgado

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, Shepherd of the Valley, Central Point
Previous assignment: Prison ministry

Father Perez Delgado was born in 1948, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was ordained for the diocese of San Luis Potosi in 1975. In addition to serving in several Mexican parishes, Father Perez Delgado has served at St. Patrick, Portland, Sacred Heart, Medford, St. Patrick, Independence, St. Mary Parish, Eugene, St. James, McMinnville, Good Shepherd Parish, Sheridan and St. Michael Parish, Grand Ronde. Most recently he served the Archdiocese of Portland doing prison ministry.

Father Joseph Hung Nguyen

New assignment:  Parochial Vicar, St. Anne, Grants Pass
Previous assignment:  Parochial Vicar, St. Cecilia, Beaverton

Father Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam, in 1973. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at Portland State University in 1999. He then worked at Portland State University until 2005, when he entered Mount Angel Seminary. He graduated with a master of divinity degree in 2012 from Mount Angel Seminary. He was ordained by Archbishop Vlazny in 2012.

He has served at All Saints, Portland, the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, Portland, St. Anthony, Forest Grove, Sacred Heart, Newport, The Grotto, Portland, St. John the Baptist, Milwaukie, St. Stephen, Portland, Our Lady of the Lake, Lake Oswego, and most recently as parochial vicar at St. Cecilia, Beaverton.

Father Justus Alaeto

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, Sacred Heart, Medford
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, Shepherd of the Valley, Central Point

Father Alaeto was born in 1976 in Orlu, Nigeria. He attended the National Missionary Seminary of St. Paul in Abuja, Nigeria, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2003.

He attended Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary in Ibadan, Nigeria, and the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. After studying at Mount Angel Seminary, he transferred to Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corner, where he completed a master of divinity degree in May. He was ordained in 2012 by Archbishop Vlazny.

He has served at St. Anthony, Tigard, All Saints, Portland, St. Vincent de Paul, Salem and most recently as parochial vicar at Shepherd of the Valley, Central Point.

Father Martin Tavares Hernandez

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, Sacred Heart, Medford

Father Tavares Hernandez was born in 1967 in Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico. He studied at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2002. He earned a master of divinity degree from Mount Angel Seminary in 2014. He was ordained by Archbishop Sample on June 6 at St. Mary Cathedral.

He has served at St. Alexander, Cornelius and St. Mary Star of the Sea, Astoria.

Father Francisco Bringuela

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Pius X, Portland

Father Bringuela was born in 1983 in Irosin, Sorsogon, Philippines. He attended Christ the King Mission Seminary, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2004. He studied theology at Divine Word School of Theology in Tagaytay City, Philippines. He worked in campus ministry for a year at Divine Word College in Legazpi, Philippines. He entered Mount Angel Seminary, where he completed a master of divinity degree in 2014. He was ordained by Archbishop Sample on June 6 at St. Mary Cathedral.

He has served at the Madeleine, Portland; St. Alice, Springfield and Queen of Peace, Salem.

Father Antipas Msamire Shayo, ALCP

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Wenceslaus, Scappoose
Previous assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Joseph, Salem

Father Shayo, ALCP, was born in 1961 in Rombo, Tanzania. He entered the minor seminary in 1979 and was ordained a priest in 1995 for the Apostolic Life Community of Priests in Moshi, Tanzania.  He worked as parochial vicar in the Diocese of Moshi, Tanzania, from 1995 to 1997.  He worked as a parish priest in the Diocese of Musoma, Tanzania, from 1997 to ‘01, in the Diocese of Moshi, Tanzania from 2002 to ‘06, and in the Diocese of Tanga, Tanzania, from 2006 to ‘12.  He was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Joseph, Salem in February 2012.

Father Peter Do, OP

New assignment: Pastor, St. Thomas More, Eugene

Father Do was born in 1977 in Bien Hoa, Vietnam.  He attended Grant High School and Portland State University and the University of Utah.  He entered the seminary in 2001 and was ordained a priest in 2009 for the Western Dominican Province in Oakland, Calif., at St. Dominic Church, San Francisco, Calif. He served as parochial vicar in Salt Lake City, Utah from 2009 to ‘14.

Father Vincent Benoit, OP

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, St. Thomas More, Eugene

Father Benoit was born in 1947 in Madison, Wis. He attended Blanchet High School in Seattle and Seattle Community College, Midlands Technical-Columbia SC, Seattle University, and University of Utah. He entered the seminary in 1977 and attended Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, Calif. He was ordained a priest in 1984 for the Western Dominican Province at St. Mary’s Chapel, Moraga, Calif. From 1985 to ‘88, he was associate pastor at Blessed Sacrament, Seattle. From 1988 to ‘93, he was associate pastor at St. Mary Magdalen, Berkeley.  From 1993 to ‘99 he was assigned to St. Thomas More, Eugene, and was chaplain and teacher at Marist High School 1993-’00. From 2002 to ‘06, he was director at Newman Centers in Riverside, California and Seattle. He was parochial vicar at Holy Rosary, Portland, from 2006 to ‘11. He was webmaster at St. Albert Priory in Oakland, Calif., from 2011 to ‘14.

Father Hugo Maese, MSpS

New assignment: St. Matthew, Hillsboro, Pastor

Father Maese, MSpS, was born in 1973 in El Paso, Texas.  He entered Mount Angel Seminary in 1996 and graduated from St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, Calif., in 2004. He was ordained a priest in 2005 for the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit at St. Matthew, Hillsboro. He served at parochial vicar at St. Matthew’s from 2005 to ‘08, and then was assigned to vocations and formation ministry.

Father Dismas Sayre, OP

New assignment: Parochial Vicar, Holy Rosary, Portland

Father Sayre was born in 1968 in Huto Rey, Puerto Rico.  He attended high school in Wexford, Pennsylvania.  He attended the University of Utah from 1989 to ‘99, and then entered the seminary in Oakland. He was ordained a priest in 2008 at for the Western Dominican Province in Oakland. He worked as a Parochial Vicar from 2008 to ‘11 in Antioch, Calif. He worked as a chaplain from 2011 to 2012 at St. Dominic Priory, Los Angeles.
