Rose Haven, a Portland nonprofit that provides services to homeless and abused women and children, hosts a fundraising walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11.
Founded by Good Shepherd Sister Cathleen Boerboom in 1999, Rose Haven is a day shelter that aims to provide a safe, respectful environment for women and children to overcome the trauma of abuse and the loss of their security and dignity.
Since 2007, the number of women and children served by the agency has grown by 20-25 percent per year. The services include hot meals, clean clothing and hygiene products, access to internet and telephone, classes and activities, and access to advocates.
The walk starts at Castaway, on Northwest 18th and Upshur. Participants who walk the Nob Hill neighborhood may also choose to honor of a special woman in their lives. Singer Emily Otteson and dance artists PURE Portland will perform at the starting line.
