Fr. Michael Patrick in court.

Father Michael Patrick, pastor of St. Wenceslaus Pairsh in Scappoose, appeared Friday in Clark County, Washington, superior court. He was arrested and later extradited to Vancouver after stepping off a plane from Australia at Los Angeles International Airport. Authorities made the arrest based on a warrant issued in Vancouver.

He is charged with attempting to lure a 14-year-old girl into his car in Vancouver, where he keeps a residence. In Washington, luring anyone younger than 16 into a car without consent of the minor’s parent is a felony.

The judge ordered the priest from Sri Lanka to check into Clark County Jail’s supervised-release program. He is scheduled to be arraigned May 6.

Fr. Michael Patrick was our pastor before being assigned to St. Wenceslaus Parish. He is in our prayers along with all his parishioners. May he and all involved or concerned be open to the guidance, strength and comfort of the Holy Spirit of Truth.
