Saying Goodbye: The loss of a loved one
BEAVERTON – The loss of a loved one can be confusing and painful time. Would you know what to do as you prepare to say goodbye?
On Jan. 16, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Foundation will host “Saying Goodbye,” a panel discussion to help alleviate some of the stress and confusion that is inevitable with the loss of a loved one. It will be held at 7 p.m. in Room 2 A/B of the SSMO Motherhouse and Administration Building. The discussion is part of the SSMO Foundation Speaker Series, presented in partnership with the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Bethany Center. The SSMO campus is located at 4440 SW 148th Avenue, Beaverton.
This session will cover topics such as when to call a priest, what the funeral home will need from you, and how to honor the wishes of your loved one. Organizers note that being familiar with this information in advance will help alleviate some of the stress and confusion that is inevitable with the loss of a loved one.
This panel discussion will be led by: Melodie Kelly, MSW, Care Partners; Father Sean Weeks, St. Pius X Catholic Church; Sr. Josephine Pelster, SSMO, Director of Spiritual Care, Maryville; and Natasha Tjaarda, General Manager, Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Chapel and Young's Funeral Home.
