1/8/2014 12:00:00 PM Collection for Catholic communications set
The Archdiocese of Portland Twitter page.
The collection to support Catholic communications will be taken in the parishes of the Archdiocese of Portland the weekend of Jan. 18-19. The Catholic Communication Campaign assists church communication efforts at the archdiocesan and national levels. One-half of the collection will remain at the archdiocese to assist local media projects. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Faith Worship Witness.”
The Church uses today’s instruments for communication to teach, to encourage and to serve as an example of Gospel values. The internet and social media are used in parishes and dioceses everywhere. Other forms of communications such as Catholic newspapers, Catholic radio and parish bulletins still have a very important role in communicating with Catholics and for purposes of evangelization.
Examples of social media use in the Archdiocese of Portland can be found on the internet at www.archdpdx.org and followed on Twitter @archdpdx. The Office for Youth and Young Adults can be followed @pdxym, while the Office for Ministry Formation can be found @MinistryForm. The Archdiocesan Vocations Office has a new mobile app available for IPhone and Android PDXvocations. Most parishes have their own websites to assist parishioners.
Catholics in western Oregon are encouraged to be generous in supporting collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign the weekend of Jan. 18-19.
