Trees offer time to remember lost loved ones
Attrell Funeral Chapel in Newberg.
Attrell’s Funeral Chapels in Newberg and Sherwood both host a “Tree of Remembrance” during the holiday season.
People who have experienced the death of a loved one are invited to bring a special ornament to commemorate their friend or family member, which can be placed on the tree.
“In the 25 years we have promoted this event, hundreds of people have participated, finding value in doing something in remembrance of their loved ones, regardless of where or when death occurred,” said Karon Heineman, coordinator of the tradition.
A Christmas tree will be located at each Attrell’s location, 207 Villa Road in Newberg and 16195 SW First St., in Sherwood, which are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The trees will remain up until Dec. 31.
In addition to the trees, both chapels held “Time of Remembrance” programs.
Since 1996, the “Mother’s Heart” group has been gathering around the Newberg tree to hang ornaments. All mothers who have lost a child are invited to come and share memories about the joys of parenting.
