Providence's 2013 Festival of Trees.
Whisper wishes to Santa or patch up a stuffed animal in the Teddy Bear Hospital at this year’s Providence Festival of Trees.
The event reopens tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for children ages 3-12.
This year’s beneficiary is Providence Heart and Vascular Institute’s youth cardiac screening program, Play Smart. Screening for sudden cardiac arrest is offered free to young people in the community, funded primarily by donations. To date the program has screened nearly 2,000 youth, identifying more than 20 who needed additional care and treatment. One tree at the event is draped with the actual ticker tape from children’s heart screenings.
Visitors can celebrate the season by wandering through the festival’s winter wonderland filled with 100 trees of all sizes, created by local designers, businesses and more than 1,200 volunteers. Live music, Santa photos, an elaborate miniature Christmas village and cookie decorating are among the attractions.
In addition to Play Smart, festival proceeds support Providence Cancer Center, Providence Child Center, Providence Hospice and Providence Medication Assistance Program.
Find the festival at the Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A., 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland.
