MOUNT ANGEL — The Benedictine Sisters of Mount Angel invite the public to an ecumenical Taizé Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15. The hour-long service is held on the third Sunday of each month in the Queen of Angels Monastery Chapel,840 S. Main Street here. All are welcome to attend the service, which combines singing, Scripture and silent contemplation.
Taizé prayer takes its name from the Taizé monastic community in France which was founded in the 1950s. This prayer is contemplative and consists of chanting, listening to Scripture, silent meditation and prayer. The music of Taizé takes the form of “ostinato,” a phrase or verse of Scripture that is sung over and over.
