Festival of Trees begins Dec. 5.
Portland's Festival of Trees is set for Dec. 5-7 at Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A. The event, presented by Fred Meyer, benefits the work of some part of Providence Health and Services each year. This year’s primary beneficiary is Providence Heart and Vascular Institute’s youth cardiac screening program.
Called "Play Smart," the screening for sudden cardiac arrest is free to youths. So far, the program has screened almost 2,000 youths, identifying more than 20 who need additional care and treatment. Because the screenings are free, the program is funded primarily by donations.
Participants can wander past 100 trees of all sizes, wreaths and holiday vignettes created by local designers, businesses and more than 1,200 volunteers. This year 20,000 people are expected.
