Spiritual center: On love, truth and art
Here are some upcoming programs at the Franciscan Spiritual Center, 2512 SE Monroe St., Milwaukie:
• "God’s Extravagant Love" — an in-depth look at the Franciscan intellectual tradition. Based on the theology of St. Bonaventure and John Duns Scotus, three major themes are explored: The primacy of Christ and the mystery of love, creation and the dignity of the human person. Sessions are set for 7 p.m. Friday, Fri. Nov. 8; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9; and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. Cost is $100 for the weekend.
• "Leaving Home: Finding Truth" — Many people have an unnamed yearning about the world. Looking honestly into our lives prompts us to leave behind old patterns and practices, offering refreshed energy, courage and new clarity. This gathering is set for 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 9 and costs $35 per person.
• "Making Healing Art" — By honestly exploring our own life’s path, and expressing that journey visually, we offer each other, and the world, companionship beyond words. “Go forth and preach the Gospel, and if necessary, us words,” is a maxim attributed to St. Francis. Making art is an act of prayer. Session is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.
