BEAVERTON — Stroke survivor Gordon Viggiano and his wife Jill will speak at St. Cecilia Church at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8.

In 2008 at 51, Viggiano had a stroke that impaired the right side of his body. Five years later, he is still recovering. The Viggianos share their story of faith, love and courage with churches, medical groups and others, and also at www.mybrainhasaholeinit.com.

"I was a family man trying to do things right — work hard, provide for my family, follow Christian values," says Viggiano. "Yet on my 51st birthday, I suffered a massive stroke that nearly killed me and left me with serious impairments. One might say I was dealt a dirty card, but I see it differently.  The experience has been a true test of faith and perseverance."

In the book My Brain Has A Hole In It, ???? and wife Jill discuss the life-changing experience and the lessons that have come along with it. Viggiano says he is not fully recovered from his stroke. His is noy a "I did it and you can, too" speech.

"My journey of recovery is still in progress and will likely be a lifetime pursuit," he explains.

Viggiano says he aims to inspire people and help them see that good things can happen, even when one doesn't think it's possible.

"Even more importantly, I hope people will see how the Good Lord has been faithful to his word, providing for us and carrying us when we were too devastated to carry ourselves," he says.

St. Cecilia is at 12250
SW Fifth St.
