A handful of clergy are set to take to the links Sept. 4 to benefit a Portland home for the dying. Retired Auxiliary Bishop Kenneth Steiner and Fathers Michael Vuky, Sean Weeks, Craig Boly, Pat Conroy and Peter O'Brien are among 28 golfers who will take part in the 2013 Martha and Mary Ministries Golf Marathon to be held at Stone Creek Golf Course, Oregon City.
Golfers get sponsors and play as many holes as possible to raise funds for Martha and Mary Ministries, which offers a home in Southeast Portland and education on the end of life.
When it comes to the golf marathon, Bishop Steiner likes to say "Pray, play, and/or pay." Last year's event raised about $60,000.
