The Archdiocese of Portland Office for Youth and Young Adults has announced the schedule for those working towards a Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies. The two-year program meets four weekends per year and is designed to provide adult youth ministers with the knowledge, skills and techniques needed for creative and comprehensive ministry to youth.
The Sept. 7-8 session covers principles of youth ministry. The topic for Nov. 2-3 is practices of youth ministry. On Jan. 11-2, the group will learn foundations of ministry leadership. On March 9, courses examine skills for Christian leadership.

Parish youth ministry coordinators will meet in Mount Angel Aug. 14-15 at the Father Bernard Youth Center. The gathering, sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, is for formation, training and prayer.
New coordinators, and those new to the Archdiocese of Portland, are encouraged to attend the session on Wednesday 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The session for new coordinators will cover such issues child protection, risk management, policies and best practices for using the internet and social media, and travel policies involving minors. The cost of the morning session is $20 and includes a breakfast and lunch.
The gathering for all coordinators of youth ministry beginning at 3 p.m. Aug. 14. It provides an opportunity for professional development, networking, and policy updates, discussion of pertinent issues as well as prayer and faith formation. The cost for the gathering on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday is $50, which includes lodging and three meals.
Archbishop Alexander Sample will join the youth ministers on Thursday to say Mass on the Solemnity of the Assumption.
