Cantores in Ecclesia, the Portland liturgical choir that specializes in chant and Renaissance polyphony, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. A Mass of thanksgiving, with Archbishop Alexander Sample as celebrant, is set for 5 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at St. Stephen Church in Southeast Portland.
Dean Applegate, founder of the choir, will direct along with son Blake, who is current director. Both adult and children's choirs — almost 60 singers — will take part in the liturgy.
Music will include Victoria's work for twelve voices, the Missa Laetatus sum. A reception follows. The choir is issuing a new CD of music written at the time of the Council of Trent.
