Catholic businessman honored for philanthropy
A Catholic philanthropist will be honored by Oregon's ecumenical association. Joe Weston, real estate developer and philanthropist, will receive the “Vollum Ecumenical Humanitarian Award” from Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon during a dinner set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Hilton Hotel in Portland.
Weston has funded many educational initiatives and social service projects. He's a Central Catholic High School graduate who entered the real estate business.
Other people from local churches will receive awards, including the Rev. Kent Harrop, senior pastor at First Baptist Church in McMinnville, who will be named “Ecumenist of the Year.” Wajdi Said, co-founder and president of the Muslim Educational Trust, will get the “Two Pauls Award,” in honor of interfaith cooperation.
