Deacon Owen Cummings
The 2013 Pastoral Ministry Conference will focus on the New Evangelization. The conference will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and will be held at the Holiday Inn in Wilsonville. The conference is a gathering for clergy and pastoral ministers from around the Archdiocese of Portland. The keynote speaker for the day will be Deacon Owen Cummings. Archbishop Alexander Sample will be the presider and homilist for the celebration of the Eucharist for the assembly.
Doctor and Deacon Owen Cummings is the Regents Professor of Theology and Academic Dean at Mount Angel Seminary. He is known as a voracious reader and teacher. He is an enthusiastic promoter and practitioner of The New Evangelization. Deacon Owen earned a bachelor of arts in Semitic Languages at University College, Dublin and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from University of Dublin, Trinity College. He earned a Higher Diploma in Education from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, a Master of Theology degree in Systematic Theology at the University of Glasgow, and he also earned a Doctor of Divinity degree in Systematic Theology from the University of Dublin, Trinity College.
Cummings has been married for four decades and he and his wife are parents to five grown children. Deacon Cummings has served as a permanent deacon for 23 years, including half of those years in the Archdiocese of Portland. He serves as an occasional diocesan censor, and writes the weekly column "Question Box‚" for the Catholic Sentinel. In 2008, he received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal from Pope Benedict XVI.
The schedule begins with check-in at 8 a.m. and with the opening prayer and introductions beginning at 9 a.m. Deacon Cummings will give two presentations in the morning and one in the afternoon with closing remarks at 3:30 pm.

Group rate is for four or more persons from the same parish. Late registration is $75 per person after March 27. Registration includes breakfast and lunch.
