Archbishop John Vlazny
The Archdiocesan Pastoral Assembly will be held Nov. 16 and 17 at St. Pius X Parish in Northwest Portland.
The assembly, which meets every three years, is a gathering of pastors accompanied by two parish council members from every parish who gather with the archbishop and the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council. New members of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council will be elected during the assembly.
Participants will have an opportunity to provide input on the pastoral priorities for the archdiocese.
The assembly will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, with registration and a dessert social. The welcome and opening prayer will be presented by Clint Bentz, chairman of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council.
Archbishop John G. Vlazny will address the delegates, providing the vision and purpose of the assembly. The keynote speaker will be Kate Barrett, whose presentation will introduce the theme of the assembly, “Setting Faith Afire.” The evening will close with night prayer.
On Saturday, the assembly will begin with breakfast followed by the opening prayer and the pastoral address given by Archbishop Vlazny. A report on the work on the 2010-’12 Archdiocesan Pastoral Council will be presented by Bentz.
Discussions on a vicariate level will follow. After Mass celebrated by the archbishop, lunch and further vicariate discussions, there will be an election to choose the new APC representatives. Finally the Assembly will identify and recommend pastoral priorities for the coming years.
