Catechetical conference expands to include liturgical topics
BEAVERTON — A Catechetical and Liturgical Conference will take place at Jesuit High School from 8 a.m. and on into the night Saturday, Oct. 20.
Sponsored by OCP, Archdiocese of Portland and RCL Benzinger, the event’s theme is “New Evangelization: Mission, Catechesis, Worship. The conference is open to anyone involved in faith formation, and parish-level music and worship.
Keynote speakers are John Flaherty, Sister Grace Duc, Dr. Stephen Bullivant and Maruja Sedano. Keynotes will be offered in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Stephen Bullivant is lecturer in theology and ethics at St. Mary’s University College in the United Kingdom, where he is also program director for youth ministry. John Flaherty serves as the associate director of campus ministry and director of liturgy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Maruja Sedano is the director of the Office of Catechesis and Youth Ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Sister Grace Duc is director of faith formation at La Purisima Catholic Church in Orange, Calif.
There are 30 workshops offered in Spanish, and 19 in English/Vietnamese. A Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m.
The conference culminates with a concert, “Age to Age: Generations of Faith,” featuring Catholic musicians Steve Angrisano, Dan Schutte, and Curtis Stephen.
