The Lion Dance by Lac Hong Vietnamese School kicks off the Cultural Entertainment at the Holy Trinity International Festival in Beaverton May 12.
Linny Tharappel greets Holy Trinity parishioners as they arrive to celebrate Mass for the eighth annual International Festival. The festival and Mass are held the Saturday before Mothers Day every year.
Parishioners represented countries from around the world — flag bearers from Japan, dancers from China, and chefs from the Philippines. Father Dave Gutmann, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, said church’s recent International Festival was “amazing.”
“Well done to our incredible events planning ministry,” he said. “A tremendous amount of work goes into all the planning for this huge event, and it showed.”
When Holy Trinity Church holds its annual International Festival, more than 40 countries are represented. Beyond being one of the most culturally diverse parishes in the Portland metro area, the church’s leaders work hard to involve people of all ages in its ministries.
Enthusiasm was high and it was obvious that everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves, Father Gutmann said, at Mass, at the dinner, and during the entertainment.
The only casualties were the three pigs who were part of the feast.
Monette Mallari has been coordinating the event since 2003. The event is always free, even the food.
This year’s festival coincided with the parish and school’s 50th anniversary.
