Mount Angel Developmental Programs and Catholic Community Services of the Mid-Willamette Valley and Central Coast announced recently that the two organizations will merge.
“MADP is a financially strong organization with a dedicated staff and committed board of directors who care deeply about the people we serve,” said Carolyn Fox, Mount Angel Developmental Programs' executive director.
As she began planning for retirement after 17 years of service, Fox said it became clear to her that the organization had grown to a point that it would benefit from the expertise and resources of a large, nationally credit organization.
“The joining of our two organizations will foster a strong advocacy in our communities on behalf of people who experience the challenges of intellectual or developmental disabilities,” said Jim Seymour, executive corrector of Catholic Community Services. “Once we got to know the staff and board members at MADP we were inspired and encouraged by their passion and dedication to their customers. "
Jennifer Barischoff, program director, will oversee operations at the Mount Angel Developmental Programs. Fox said she will continue to provide guidance until she feels comfortable that the transition is well-integrated and complete.
Mount Angel Developmental Programs was founded in 1972 by a group of parents, social workers, psychologists and college instructors with a vision to form a group that would advocate for people challenged with developmental disabilities and provide a day program, a sheltered workshop, respite for parents, and a social environment. During the past 12 years the organization has expanded its vision and its mission, quadrupled the number of program participants to more than 100 individuals, and expanded geographically to provide services and businesses in multiple counties including Marion, Polk and Clackamas.
Catholic Community Services is a nonprofit social services organization serving vulnerable children, youth, adults and families, and people with intellectual or developmental disabilities in the Mid-Willamette Valley and Central Oregon Coast. Founded in Salem in 1938, the organization offers 15 programs providing youth and family services and services for adults with developmental disabilities. The organization serves nearly 3,000 people annually and employs more than 250 members of the community.
