Del Keller, president of The Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, has invited all Catholic women of the Archdiocese of Portland to the council's convention April 20-21. The event takes place at St Anthony Parish in Portland, 3700 SE 79th. Speakers will address liturgy, the pro-life movement, lawmaking and even protecting one's property.

At 10 a.m. Friday, Providence Sister Jeremy Gallet will address the changes in the language used during the Mass. Sister Jeremy, director of worship for the archdiocese, will discuss how the Vatican changed its theory of translation and the renewed emphasis on biblical references. She'll also examine the need for "more sacred sounding language."  At 11 a.m., Lynda Harrington of Oregon Right To Life will describe the success of "Standupgirl.com," which reaches young women and challenges the abortion culture.  At 2 p.m., there will be a tour of St. Anthony Village senior housing.

At 4 p.m., retired Auxiliary Bishop Kenneth Steiner will preside at Mass and the installation of new ACCW officers. A banquet will follow with keynote speakers Sandy Stafford and her daughter, Jeannine. They'll tell the story of their family's experience at World Youth Day in Spain.

On Saturday at 10 a.m. Rep. Matt Wand, R-Troutdale, will discuss the Oregon State Legislature and how to disagree respectfully in public debate. At 11 a.m., Dan Staton, Multnomah County Sheriff, will give advice on "How to Empower Yourself and Protect Your Property."  At lunch that day, the council will announce and celebrate "The 2012 Woman of Achievement."

The convention closes with a business meeting and raffle winners.
