Mother Bernardine Wachter founded the Benedictine Sisters in Oregon in the 1880s.
The history of the Benedictine Sisters of Mount Angel is currently part of a display at the Willamette Heritage Center at the Mission Mill Museum in Salem.
Sr. Alberta Dieker and Sr. Christine Rausch worked with the Benedictine Foundation office to prepare the exhibit, which one of several in "Willamette Women: Our History is Our Strength."
The center's exhibition series celebrates the "Year of the Woman" and the centennial of women gaining the right to vote in Oregon. The exhibition runs through Saturday, March 10 at the center, 1313 Mill St. Southeast.
