Green rain at Kell's
The money sticks to the ceiling at Kell's.
It’s the luck of the Irish that makes “green rain” from the ceiling at Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub during the restaurant’s annual ceiling sweep, an event that benefits the Center for Medically Fragile Children at Providence Child Center.
It's set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub in Portland.
Patrons have been tossing cash to the ceiling at Kells throughout the year, and a little bit of Irish magic keeps the bills and coins in place until the annual “sweep” prior to St. Patrick’s Day.
Last year, $9,000 was collected. Kells matches the total each year. Since its start in 1995, the event has raised more than $193,000.
Students from The Murray School of Irish Dancing perform during the morning while children, staff and volunteers from Providence Center for Medically Fragile Children stand by with umbrellas to catch the “rain.” The center is the only pediatric residential facility in the Northwest providing 24-hour skilled nursing care for children with profound disabilities and complex medical needs.
