Collection set for Holy Land

The collection for the support of the Church in the Holy Land will be taken in parishes on Good Friday, April 2.

The collection assists the Franciscans in the Holy Land, directed by the Church to care for the holy places there. They have been serving in the Holy Land for almost 800 years. They maintain and care for the shrines and chapels, operate schools, care for the poor by providing housing and health care, and offer pastoral care for the 29 parishes in the area. The friars also provide spiritual direction for pilgrims.

The Holy Land Custody of the Franciscans operates the three largest parishes in the area: Jerusalem, Nazareth and Bethlehem. They serve the pastoral needs of those visiting the places where Jesus lived and visited. They also minister in Lebanon and Syria to Arabic-speaking Christian communities and work among Hebrew-speaking Christians.

Catholics in the Archdiocese of Portland are encouraged to be generous in their support of the Collection for the Holy Land on Good Friday.
