WASHINGTON — Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Fernando Isern as head of the Diocese of Pueblo, Colo., citing the canon law provision for ill health or other serious reasons.

Bishop Isern, 54, was installed Dec. 10, 2009, succeeding Bishop Arthur Tafoya as the fourth bishop of Pueblo.

His resignation was announced in Washington by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
