British bishops oppose same-sex marriage
Catholic News Service

Legalization of same-sex marriage could obscure the “real meaning” of marriage for generations to come, the bishops of England and Wales are telling Catholics.
In a letter read in about 2,500 parishes, the bishops said the imminent government proposal to change the law “would gradually and inevitably transform society’s understanding of the purpose of marriage.”
A change in the law could occur before the next general election in 2012. British Prime Minister David Cameron has said he is “emphatically in favor” of such a change.
Cardinal Keith O’Brien of St. Andrews and Edinburgh, Scotland, criticized government proposals to redefine marriage.
