More than 200 were killed and 2,000 injured by a series of explosions triggered by a fire at a military munitions depot in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
Government officials suspect a short-circuit set off the fire, causing a series of explosions that devastated a neighborhood on the eastern edge of Brazzaville, collapsing St. Louis Catholic Church. Sunday Mass-goers were just leaving when the blasts occurred.
