School kids can still get free meals
To ensure no children go hungry during summer vacation, Catholic Charities Schools Uniting Neighborhoods Community Schools are serving breakfast and lunch to anyone aged 18-years and younger.
Last summer the David Douglas School District served more than 30,000 meals between June and August, a 61 percent increase over the year before.
“It is clear that summer meals are a very important resource for children and families experiencing food insecurity, especially in this economic climate,” says Alison Dunfee, school based services manager.
From now until at least mid-August, Catholic Charities will offer free summer meals at Floyd Light Middle School, Ron Russell Middle School, East Gresham Grade School and Hall Elementary.
